Medical Lake Home A Total Loss After Second Fire in Four Days; Fire Crews: "It's Suspicious"
MEDICAL LAKE, Wash.- An arson investigator is at the scene of a house fire for the second time in less than a week. The first time the home was seriously damaged, this time it was declared a total loss.
The fire call came out Monday morning at 5:22. Spokane fire crews were called to the 23000 of West Thorpe in Medical Lake, which is west and south of Fairchild Air Force Base. According to fire crews at the scene, they had been called out to a house fire at this same location just four days earlier.
At that time, based on evidence, they determined the house fire to be suspicious. The home was seriously damaged, but crews did not label it destroyed and said the homeowner could rebuild. Crews checked on the home several times during the weekend to make sure the former fire didn't flare up. A fire did however break out again Monday morning and this time the home was burnt to the ground and declared a total loss.
Once again, the fire has been labeled suspicious, and an arson investigator will be at the former home site later Monday to try to determine a cause. The homeowner was not at home during either fire and there were no injuries in either fire.
