Email Dave Law: dave.law@khq.com | More: See Dave's Fishing reports

Dave originally joined KHQ Weather Team in 2005. With over 25 years in the weather discipline, Dave had definitely "seen it and done it." A graduate from the Air Force's Advanced Meteorology curriculum and Mississippi State, he holds degrees in "Weather Technology" and "Operational Meteorology."

"Weather assignments have taken me around the planet and allowed me to experience an unbelievable breadth of phenomena and responsibility." The abbreviated list of weather assignments include: Korea, Persian Gulf, Micronesia, North Carolina, California, and many more locations. While at those, he was the lead forecaster for events ranging from Air Force One flights, hurricane evacuations, rescue operations, to satellite space launches and NASA shuttle landings. His final stop was as Fairchild AFB's, Chief Meteorologist, where he retired from military service in 2005. "It was awesome to be back home in Washington." Since 2001, he continues to work a few days per month at the Spokane Airport Weather Office/Air Traffic Control Tower.

Dave's an avid fisherman/fly fisher. On any given day, he could be on one of our treasured lakes/rivers or exploring a fresh gem. "I actually make plans based on my forecasts…and that sure-fire advantage ensures I know when to go, where to go, and I'm prepared for Mother Nature."

Dave is a decorated veteran, but says his most satisfying professional accomplishment was earning the Merewether Award for research and use of Doppler Acoustic Radar technology to improve aviation forecasts. As far as best weather experiences…there are thousands, and they're all about "A spot-on weather forecast."

Friday Morning Weather Update: Isolated Thunderstorms and HOT Today!

Today: Moisture moving in from the south will bring high clouds to the region today and a risk of thunderstorms. The main thunderstorm threat will be over the Cascades and again from NE Oregon into SW Montana. Isolated storms are still possible elsewhere, just not as likely. If they do develop it would be late this afternoon and into the evening. Still going to be hot. High: 95° (Yellow)

Flash Flood Watch: In place over the north Cascades (Methow Valley) for the potential of thunderstorms bringing brief but heavy downpours leading to flash flooding over burn scar areas

Red Flag Warning: continues over the Blue Mountains until Saturday night because thunderstorms continue to form in NE Oregon, producing lightning and gusty winds that could potentially cause new fires to start.

A Look Ahead: Better chance of scattered thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening as a weak cold front will push through and combine with that monsoonal moisture to bring the storms. Gusty winds, brief heavy rain and lightning will all be possible if you find yourself caught in some of these storms, but they don't look to be nearly as strong as what moved through last Wednesday. 90+ degree temps expected into mid-next week, looks like we finally dip into the upper 80s by late next week!
